It is unclear when this original building was constructed, but documented evidence of its use starts in 1891 when it was a saloon. Interestingly enough, church services were held here while the saloon was operating. Later, the pastor was given monetary help to relocate, as the singing and preaching were keeping the saloon’s business from thriving. In 1913, the saloon was purchased and soon a restaurant was built and it operated as that for many years. The restaurant changed hands many times and later a service station was added in the 1930s. In 1937, fire destroyed almost all the building with only the kitchen and store rooms remaining, which were moved to the present location on the lot. This building has been occupied by various restaurants and businesses throughout the years according to advertisements in the local newspaper, The Comfort News.
